WhatsApp has become a go-to support and sales channel for South African businesses, and you can connect it directly to your email campaigns. Add a button or image that opens a WhatsApp chat with your number, no app-switching, no copying numbers.

Here is how to set it up in TouchBasePro.

Linking a button to your WhatsApp

  1. Add a button block to your campaign.

  2. Set the button text, for example, "Contact us on WhatsApp".

  3. In the Button URL field, enter one of the following formats:

    • Link without a pre-filled message:

      https://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone={number}

Replace {number} with the full number in international format. Drop any leading zeros, brackets, or hyphens.

      Example: https://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=27831234567

    • Link with a custom pre-filled message: Append &text={message} to the URL above. Use %20 to represent spaces.

      Example: https://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=27831234567&text=This%20is%20a%20test

When a recipient clicks this link, their WhatsApp chat opens with "This is a test" already typed in the message field.

  4. Style the button to match your campaign design.

  5. Click Done Editing.

Linking an image to your WhatsApp

  1. Add an image block to your campaign.
  2. In the Link field, enter the same URL format as above.
  3. Click Done Editing.

Frequently asked questions

What URL format do I use to link a button to a WhatsApp number?
Use https://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone={number}, where {number} is the full international format number with no leading zeros, brackets, or hyphens. For example: https://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=27831234567
Can I pre-fill a message when someone clicks my WhatsApp link?
Yes. Append &text={your message} to the URL and replace spaces with %20. For example: https://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=27831234567&text=This%20is%20a%20test will open WhatsApp with 'This is a test' already in the message field.
Can I link an image to WhatsApp instead of a button?
Yes. Add an image block to your campaign, paste the WhatsApp URL into the Link field, and click Done Editing. The same URL formats apply.
